Introduction & Instructions
Aloha everyone!
Welcome to this interactive E-book! The goal of this book is to digitally recreate the beauty of Lyon Arboretum to make it accessible to a wider audience. Lyon Arboretum is a 194-acre botanical garden managed by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa nestled deep in Mānoa Valley. Lyon Arboretum features beautiful rain forests, small water bodies, exciting trails, and boasts a collection of 5,660 thriving tropical plant varieties. To know more about arboretums, click here.
As educational technologists and instructional designers we have endeavored to implement cutting edge technology to build virtual tours of the arboretum that will hopefully produce an authentic learning environment for children and adults who are not able to walk through the trails of the garden grounds.
Pressbooks was selected as a platform to host the interactive E-book because of its intuitive features, H5P capabilities, and its accessibility as an open educational resource (OER). Each chapter contains virtual tours of designated paths in the arboretum, colorful images, information about the various plants in the arboretum, interactive quizzes, and ends with hands-on activities.
